U.S. District Court Judge Poll

Senator Lisa Murkowski solicited for applicants to fill the U.S. District Court of Alaska Judge seat vacated in July 2024. Letters of interest and resumes of the applicants are included below. An email to all active, inactive, and retired Bar members was sent on February 18, 2025 which included a poll for Bar members to assess the qualifications of each applicant for the role. Poll responses are due by March 4, 2025.  The poll is email specific and should not be forwarded.  If you did not receive the poll please contact the Alaska Bar Association at info@alaskabar.org or (907)272-7469.

Nominations Sought for Alaska Bar Association Board of Governors, Alaska Judicial Council (AJC), and ABA Young Lawyer Delegate 

Nominations are now being accepted for the Alaska Bar Association Board of  Governors, the Alaska Judicial Council (AJC), and the ABA Young Lawyer Delegate. The deadline is Friday, March 7, 2025. Individuals looking to apply must complete a nominating petition and submit a letter or statement of candidacy.  Nominating petitions and statements should be submitted to Executive Director Danielle Bailey at bailey@alaskabar.org.

Board of Governors: Terms are three years.  Board members must reside and be active members in their district.  Members are elected by the active membership of the jurisdiction from which they reside.  One of the 2nd/4th JD positions is for the remainder of a term ending April 2027. The New Lawyer Liaison is appointed by the Board of Governors for a two-year term and sits on the Board as a non-voting member. The position is open to attorneys who have graduated from law school not more than five years prior to the date the term begins. Board members (and New Lawyer Liaisons) who live outside of Anchorage are reimbursed for travel to meetings.

Alaska Judicial Council: The vacancy on the 2nd/4th JD of the AJC is for the remainder of a six-year term ending February 23, 2030.  The description of the attorney member Council position is posted on the Judicial Council’s website.  It outlines the duties and responsibilities of Council members, and is provided as information to prospective attorney candidates.

ABA Young Lawyer Delegate: Term is two years. To be considered for this appointment, this Delegate must be an ABA member in good standing throughout their tenure as Delegate, and, according to §6.4(a) of the ABA’s Constitution, the Delegate must have been admitted to practice in their first bar within the past five years OR must be less than 36 years old at the beginning of the term.  Travel is not reimbursed by the Alaska Bar Association.
