Internships and Practice Waivers

Alaska Court System Law Clerk Information
Every year approximately 60 law clerks are hired to work for judges in the Alaska Court System.  Information on clerking with the Alaska Court System is available in the Guide for Prospective Law Clerks.  Generally the Alaska Court System recommends that applications for law clerk positions with the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals should be received no later than September 15th.  Applications for law clerk positions for the Superior Court and District Court should be received no later than November 1st.  Applicants should be aware that individual judges may make job offers before these dates.  Information on salary, moving expenses, benefits, qualifications, and how to apply can all be found in the Alaska Court System’s Guide for Prospective Law Clerks.

Job Description

The Hon. Peter Ramgren with the Alaska Superior Trial Court in Anchorage is hiring for a post-graduate law clerk to begin September 1st, 2025.

Clerking at the Alaska Superior Trial Court provides clerks an opportunity to improve their research and writing skills while working closely with judges, other law clerks, judicial assistants, public defenders and prosecutors, and other staff. Judge Ramgren is seeking a law clerk interested in writing, researching, and analytical thinking.

This position is ideal for a candidate interested in criminal law.

Successful applicants will perform research relating to motions before the court, summarize case files, and prepare memoranda and recommendations. These positions may also organize files, review case files for procedural sufficiency, and review orders and judgments prepared for signature.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited law school with an LLB or JD.

Benefits: We provide health insurance for the employee and eligible dependents, 12 paid holidays, personal leave, Supplemental Benefits System (SBS), and the opportunity to participate in the Deferred Compensation Plan. Travel and moving expenses may be eligible for reimbursement according to ACS policies.

How to Apply: Qualified applicants must submit a letter of interest, resume, law school transcripts, a brief writing sample not substantially edited by someone else, and two letters of recommendation from law professors or others familiar with the applicant’s work – combined into one attachment if possible. The recruitment period will remain open until the positions are filled.
