Law School Scholarships
The Alaska Bar Association offers law school scholarships to current 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year law students who demonstrate ties to Alaska, and an intent to return to Alaska within two years of graduation.
Applications for a scholarship must be sent to the Alaska Bar Association by March 1.
The application must include:
- Completed application form
- Proof of enrollment in law school
- Resume
- Proof of Alaska residency or an explanation of ties to Alaska
- Personal statement of not more than 1,500 words in which the applicant discusses their ties to Alaska. The applicant should describe their reason for applying for the scholarship and any other pertinent information that the applicant believes the scholarship fundraising and implementation committee should consider when evaluating the application.
The scholarship fundraising and implementation committee make all grant decisions and their decision is final. The amount and number of scholarships will be determined by the amount of money in the scholarship fund. Scholarship awards will be determined in late April.

Donating to the Scholarship Program
Make a one-time donation: To donate to the scholarship fund, Bar members may log in to their dashboard and go to Online Store/make a donation, or send a check to the Alaska Bar Association, payable to the Alaska Bar Foundation (write “scholarship” in the memo line), a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax-deductible.
Make a bequest in your will or trust: We encourage bequests to the Alaska Bar Scholarship Program to be general in nature. The needs of scholarship applicants change over time, and gifts with significant restrictions may not be realistic when the gift is finally realized.
The following is sample language only. We encourage you to contact the Alaska Bar Foundation and your own estate planning attorney to determine the most appropriate language for fulfilling your charitable goals.
Gift of Specific Amount
I give and bequeath the sum of $_________ to the Alaska Bar Foundation, a nonprofit corporation currently located in Anchorage, Alaska with the employer identification number 23-7221675, or its successor, to be added to the Alaska Bar Scholarship Program.
If the Alaska Bar Foundation determines, in its sole discretion, that the need for that fund no longer exists, or for some reason administering my gift as a part of that fund is unlawful, impossible, impracticable, or imprudent, then it may direct the use of my gift for its general charitable purposes.
Gift of Residuary Estate
I give, devise, and bequeath the rest, residual, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to the Alaska Bar Foundation, a nonprofit corporation currently located in Anchorage, Alaska with the employer identification number 23-7221675, or its successor, to be added to the Alaska Bar Scholarship Program.
If the Alaska Bar Foundation determines, in its sole discretion, that the need for that fund no longer exists, or for some reason administering my gift as a part of that fund is unlawful, impossible, impracticable, or imprudent, then it may direct the use of my gift for its general charitable purposes.
